Everyone has at one time or another, played to guess what it was like as a cloud in the sky. Diane Gadoua’s paintings invite us to a similar game, identifying shapes found on the rocks, the space between the rocks, the bark of trees, the space between the trees, the gaps that there seems to be everything between. Are they really empty or inhabited by strange spirits?
They are full of rough bark crevices. This theme recurs in the majority of paintings by Diane Gadoua. Sometimes these cracks become large gaping holes in trees, openings that allow to pass through the tree or get inside.
It also presents a series of diptychs tables paralleling of humans and animals. The animals are partial identifications with aspects of human beings with, images of their complex nature. They are endowed with psychic qualities. Animal behavior becomes a source of lessons for humans.
